50-Year-Old Mystery Solved as Pennsylvania Authorities Identify Frozen Body
In a stunning breakthrough, authorities in Pennsylvania, USA, have finally identified a man whose body was found frozen in a cave nearly five decades ago. The Berks County Coroner’s Office revealed that the body, dubbed the “Pinnacle Man,” belonged to 27-year-old Nicholas Paul Grubb from Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.
Grubb’s body was discovered in a cave below the Pinnacle in Albany Township, a hiking area 75 miles northwest of Philadelphia, in 1977. Despite numerous attempts to identify the remains, including an exhumation in 2019, the case remained a mystery until August this year.

Authorities tracked down and matched Grubb’s fingerprints, solving the nearly 50-year-old mystery. The initial autopsy revealed that Grubb died from a drug overdose, with no foul play suspected.
The coroner’s office praised the “considerable effort” taken to identify unclaimed bodies, highlighting the challenges faced in solving the case. Grubb’s family, who knew him as “Nicky,” expressed gratitude for the efforts to identify him. He had served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge in 1971.
