The Kwara State Government says no fewer than 50 street-connected children are currently benefiting from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s tuition-free education and feeding programme.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, disclosed this on Tuesday during the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the Ministry of Communications, held at the Ministry of Finance conference room in Ilorin.

Imam explained that the beneficiaries, rescued from the streets after being abandoned or neglected, are being accommodated at the State Child Reception Centre (CRC), where their education, feeding, healthcare, and psychological needs are being catered for.

She said the initiative forms part of the state government’s social protection drive aimed at supporting vulnerable children and giving them a second chance at life.

“These children were victims of poverty, family breakdown, and abuse. The government is not only sponsoring their education and feeding but also taking care of their health and overall well-being to help them live decent lives,” Imam said.

The commissioner added that the AbdulRazaq-led administration remained committed to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring that every child in Kwara has access to basic education and social support.

Imam also revealed that the state government had entered into a partnership with Al-Sadiq Foundation to empower vulnerable groups through skills acquisition and job creation programmes.

She noted that the collaboration was part of efforts to reduce poverty and dependence among vulnerable people, thereby strengthening their financial stability and self-reliance.

Imam reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to child protection, social reintegration, and inclusive welfare policies, stressing that “every child counts” in Governor AbdulRazaq’s development agenda.
