ACOE Extends Tenure of Excos, Expands Leadership Team

The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) has extended the tenure of its acting executives for another fifteen months, effective from May 16, 2024.
This decision was made during ACOE’s maiden post-incorporation Congress held in Abuja on Thursday.
The extended tenure will allow the current leadership to oversee the election of a substantive executive team within this period.
In addition to extending the tenure, the Congress approved the appointment of ‘Seun Ibukun-Oni from Daily Courier News as Publicity Secretary and Alabidun Shuaib Abdulrahman from Intercontinental News 247 as Assistant Secretary.
Also, Ibeneme Ebelechukwu from Chronicles Online was appointed as the new Treasurer, expanding the executive membership of the Association.

Hence, the updated roll call of ACOE acting executives include: Chairman, Martins Odiete; Vice-Chairman, Ignatius Ushie; Secretary, Shola Akingboye; Financial Secretary, Khadijat ; Treasurer, Ibeneme Ebelechukwu; Publicity Secretary, ‘Seun Ibukun-Oni and Assistant Secretary, Alabidun Shuaib Abdulrahman.
The extension of the current executives’ tenure recognizes the significant impact of their leadership since the Association’s conception and subsequent incorporation.
Their efforts have helped stabilize the Association, which initially struggled with low trust in online platforms and repeated registration denials.
Among the key initiatives discussed at the Congress was the inauguration of two ad-hoc committees aimed at laying a solid foundation for the Association. One of these is the Accreditation Committee, chaired by Onyebuchi Nze from Investigators News. This committee will set admission criteria and vet potential members to ensure the Association maintains high ethical standards.
Other members of the Accreditation Committee include: Fred Idehai (CNA), Joy Odor (Report Circle Online), ‘Seun Ibukun-Oni (Daily Courier) and Queen Kunde (Ziti Online News).
The Congress also celebrated the near completion of ACOE’s website, which will serve as a repository for the Association’s activities and authenticate its members, enhancing credibility in the online journalism space.
ACOE has also outlined plans to host quarterly high-level policy dialogues with heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at the state and federal levels, including the legislature, judiciary, and executive branches.
Additionally, the Association will facilitate monthly Twitter/Facebook live engagements to educate the public and sustain enlightenment efforts.
A media committee, chaired by ‘Seun Ibukun-Oni, was established to develop and implement comprehensive media strategies for the Association.
The committee members include: Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman (Intercontinental News 247), Moses Okorie (Nations Pride), Nnamdi Okosieme (News Allround), Ameh Gabriel (The Sightnews), Queen Kunde (Ziti Online News), Samuel Ahmadu (Savid News) and Raymond Nyatit Enoch (Paradigm Online News)
The Congress emphasized the importance of collaboration, professional development, and exploring partnership opportunities for all members.
