Afrika Eyes Launches Campus Journalism Programme in Ilorin Thursday

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

Afrika Eyes, one of the leading online newspapers, has announced plans to launch “Afrika-Eyes Campus Journalism Programme,” in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Thursday.

The development, according to its publisher, Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed, was to provide tertiary students with hands-on experience in campus life and news reporting.

Ahmed stated that many journalism students graduate without practical experience, making it difficult for them to enter the field after graduation, hence the need for the introduction of the programme.

“As the number of journalism students increases, the majority of them often graduate without having a practical knowledge of the profession, therefore they struggle to fit into the real world of journalism upon graduation,” he noted.

The publisher added that the programme will provide a reliable training ground for future journalists to sharpen their skills.

He further revealed that the newspaper would collaborate with all tertiary institutions in Kwara, serving as a platform for students to use their journalistic skills and be the voice of change.

The program will take place at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ilorin on Thursday, January 19th, 2023 at 10 am.

He added that Afrika Eyes will also award a high-ranking official whose tremendous work and dedication have produced commendable results.

“In recognition of their outstanding efforts toward a positive contribution to the community development, we have, as a result developed the Afrika Eyes Award to reward their efforts and loyalty to communities with the primary focus of the program being long service”.
