The College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, CAILS, Ilorin, has honored one of its distinguished alumni, Yunus Abdulsalam, on his recent elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The celebration, held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, was organized by the School of Law in collaboration with the 2003 Law Students Alumni.

According to Dr. Sa’ad Hadi, Acting Provost of CAILS, “Our institution remains steadfast in nurturing legal minds.”

He made this statement during the celebration, adding that Abdulsalam’s achievement shows that graduates of CAILS could compete and excel at the highest level and contribute meaningfully to the society.

Dr. Hadi also highlighted some of the institution’s developments, saying, “One of the significant developments underway is the construction of our new Moot court facility sponsored by the Grand Khadi of Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen.”

He explained that “The project represents our dedication to creating immersive learning environments that equip students with practical legal skills, stimulate real-world legal proceedings, hone their advocacy skills, and engage in critical thinking.”

He further noted that “We are working diligently to meet the necessary criteria through government support and assistance from our alumni.”

Also, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen, Grand Khadi of Shariah Court of Appeal, urged upcoming lawyers to be honest and transparent in all they do.

He advised, “Upcoming lawyers should know the importance of the profession and acquire more knowledge in order to enhance their skill.”

AbdulRauf Akinola, Vice-president of the Student Union Government (SUG) of the institution, noted that they organized the program to create awareness for students about their capability in their field of study.

Akinola, also a student at the Law department, said, “The purpose of the program was for public awareness on the quality knowledge that the institution impacts on students, just like the achievement of the SAN.”

Yunus Abdulsalam, one of Nigeria’s youngest SANs, began his career with a Diploma-in-Law from CAILS, Ilorin, before graduating from Bayero University and attending the Nigerian Law School.

He specializes in criminal and civil matters, election petition matters, and debt recovery.
