BREAKING: Customs Gives Private Jet Owners Nov. 14 Ultimatum

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a one-month extension for the verification exercise on import duty recovery for privately-owned aircraft.
INCNews247 reports that the new deadline is now Thursday, November 14, 2024.
It was gathered that this extension aims to give operators who have expressed willingness to regularize their import duties more time to comply with regulations.
The NCS seeks to ensure that all illegally imported aircraft meet legal requirements, promoting transparency and accountability in the aviation sector.

Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, reassured stakeholders of the Service’s commitment to enforcing import duty laws and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The verification exercise comes on the heels of reports that some private jet owners evaded customs duties by importing aircraft under temporary import permits instead of paying duties for permanent importation.
Failure to comply with the verification exercise NCS said may result in sanctions, including revocation of licenses.
Aircraft operators are encouraged to take advantage of the extended period to fulfill their obligations and avoid potential penalties.
The NCS appreciates the cooperation and understanding of stakeholders in this ongoing exercise.
