The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has moved to dispel growing speculation surrounding the leadership of the Nigerian Army, reaffirming that Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, remains in office.
In a statement obtained by INCNews247 early Monday morning, DHQ spokesperson, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, clarified that General Lagbaja is currently on his 2024 annual leave, contrary to reports suggesting his replacement.
“The Chief of Army Staff is hale and hearty and will soon resume normal duties at the end of his leave,” Gusau assured.

The DHQ also warned against spreading unfounded rumors and advocating for unconstitutional changes, stressing that such actions are treasonable under the Constitution.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, and protecting the nation’s integrity.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains focused on achieving its statutory responsibilities and will take necessary action against individuals or groups advocating for unconstitutional changes,” Gusau stated.
This clarification comes amidst heightened tensions and speculation surrounding the military’s leadership.
The DHQ’s reassurance aims to maintain public confidence and stability, emphasizing the military’s unwavering dedication to democratic principles.
