The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the arrest of sixteen military officers for alleged acts of indiscipline and breach of service regulations.
A statement on Saturday by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, said the officers were apprehended following a routine military exercise which exposed cases of misconduct within the ranks.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the affected officers’ grievances were mainly linked to perceived career stagnation arising from repeated failures in promotion examinations, among other internal issues.

It added that some of the arrested officers were already facing disciplinary processes for various offences before being implicated in further acts considered contrary to the ethics and values of the military profession.
“Upon completion of investigation, indicted officers will face the full military disciplinary process in accordance with established procedures to ensure accountability and preserve professionalism within the Armed Forces,” the statement read.
The Defence Headquarters described the arrests as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen discipline and uphold professionalism within the military, stressing that the move was not punitive but routine.
“The Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that these actions are strictly disciplinary in nature and part of routine efforts to maintain order, discipline, and loyalty within the ranks,” it added.
The DHQ reaffirmed that it would not tolerate behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains fully committed to its constitutional responsibilities and will remain professional at all times,” Brigadier General Gusau stated.
