DHQ Rubbishes Turkish Envoy’s Claim of FETO Terrorists in Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed allegations made by Turkish Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, regarding the presence of the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) in the country.

Poroy claimed that FETO members were operating in Nigeria under the guise of educational and healthcare institutions, posing a threat to national security.

However, Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations on Thursday described Poroy’s claim as “unofficial” and emphasized that Nigeria is an independent nation capable of making its own decisions on security and counterterrorism matters.

“Nigeria is an independent sovereign nation that can think and act for itself,” Kangye asserted.

Kangye cautioned against accepting unverified foreign narratives that may undermine national integrity or incite suspicion.

He reiterated that Nigeria values its international allies but will always prioritize its national interests and security decisions.

“We cannot take what other people are saying about Nigeria and accept it without our own independent assessment,” he said.

The DHQ also pointed the rise of global propaganda and psychological operations, suggesting that foreign assertions could be part of broader strategic manoeuvres.

“There are propagandists all over the world. Psychological oppressions go on everywhere. That’s why we must be vigilant,” Kangye added.
