The Federal Government has declared Friday 21 and Monday 24 as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

This announcement was made in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Belgore congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, encouraging them to embrace the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, self-denial and sacrifice, as demonstrated by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

He also urged Muslims to maintain and improve upon the self-restraint, self-denial, sacrifice and deep spiritual consciousness that accompanied the fasting period, to be better individuals and true worshippers.

Belgore gave assurance that President Muhammadu Buhari was fully committed to a peaceful transition of government following successful elections.

He also assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to the provision of security for the lives and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.

Belgore emphasized that security was everyone’s responsibility and urged Nigerians to report any suspicious activities or persons to the N-Alert application.

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, however, wished Muslims a happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration and prayed for the peace, blessings, and favor of Allah upon all.
