FG’s Cybercrime Programmes Yielding Positive Results – NITDA DG

The Federal Government has announced that its programmes aimed at discouraging cybercrime and unethical online behaviour are yielding positive results.
Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), made this known at a press conference in Abuja ahead of the National Cybersecurity Conference.
The conference, themed “Building a Resilient Digital Future,” will be jointly hosted by NITDA, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), and other partners.
Inuwa said the event aims to lend support to the successes already recorded in sanitising the online space.

Inuwa highlighted the evolving digital world’s cybersecurity challenges, noting that global cybercrime damages are projected to reach $10.5 trillion annually by 2025.
He emphasized the need for robust preventive measures, particularly in Nigeria, where sophisticated cyber-attacks powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) are on the rise.
Inuwa called on young people to leverage government opportunities and use cyberspace positively.
He stressed the importance of equipping Nigeria’s youth with skills in technology and digital innovation to harness their talents for positive contributions.
The conference will feature the Cybersecurity Excellence Awards to encourage individual and institutional contributions to protecting the nation’s cyberspace.
Saad Abubakar, National Cybersecurity Coordinator, ONSA, emphasized the need for public-private partnerships to address cybersecurity issues.
