Gunmen Shoot Businessman Dead in Mokwa, Abduct His Daughter

Alhaji Abdulsamiu, a businessman and seller of vehicle spare parts in the outskirts of Mokwa town, Niger State, met a tragic end yesterday when he was brutally shot and killed by suspected gunmen.

The incident, as gathered by INCNews247, took place at Government Technical College School in the town at approximately 8:30 pm. Tragically, the assailants also kidnapped the victim’s daughter.

Eyewitnesses at the scene recount a harrowing sequence of events. The victim was fatally shot at his shop, where he had been forcibly taken by the attackers. Abdulsamiu bravely resisted their attempts.

Accounts from multiple sources indicate that the audacious gunmen emerged from the college adjacent to his shop, arriving on motorcycles and a Corolla LE vehicle.

One of the sources, identified as Abdul Ibrahim, although not present at the scene, shared insights from the local community. “There were reports of gunmen moving around the town that evening before this tragic incident occurred. Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers arrived with motorcycles and a Corolla LE car. They approached his shop, where they found him in the midst of his Salati Isha’a prayer.”

Ibrahim explained the conflicting reports about the moment of the attack, stating, “Some say he was shot after his prayer, while others claim he was shot while praying. They attempted to force him into the vehicle, but he resisted. Tragically, the assailants, believed to be kidnappers, shot him and fled with his daughter.”

Yahaya Ibrahim, another witness, arrived at the scene after the incident involving the suspected kidnappers.

He reported, “I heard gunshots, and eyewitnesses in my vicinity stated that he was rushed to the hospital. Regrettably, he lost his life on the way to the hospital. The exact number of victims involved is still unclear. Importantly, it has been noted that the attackers did not take his money but did abduct his daughter.”

Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman for the Niger Police, confirmed the tragic incident, categorizing it as an attack on a spare parts shop in Mokwa.

He issued a statement, saying,”On 10/10/2023 at about 2145hrs, information was received that suspected armed robbers/kidnappers attacked the shop of one Alh. Shafiu Jimoh, spare parts seller along Bida road around Bi-water area of Mokwa.

“The police patrol team attached to Mokwa Div was mobilized to the scene and on getting to the scene, unfortunately, the shop owner was found to have been shot by the hoodlums, he was immediately rushed to Mokwa General Hospital where he was confirmed dead”, his statement reads.
