ICPC to Arraign Journalist Over ₦14m Fraud, Impersonation
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC has concluded plans to arraign a self-acclaimed journalist based in Kano, Alkazim Kabir, also known as Abbati Kabiru Abuwa, over alleged involvement in multiple fraudulent activities amounting to about ₦14 million.
The anti-graft agency said the suspect allegedly engaged in a string of impersonations and false representations, posing as senior government officials to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement obtained by INCNews247 on Wednesday, the ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, said the decision to prosecute Kabir followed several petitions accusing him of serial fraudulent acts and the impersonation of presidential aides, lawmakers, and other top public figures.

Bakare explained that investigations revealed Kabir had impersonated aides to the President and Vice President, as well as members of the National Assembly, to obtain money and favours under false pretences.
“In one instance, he obtained $3,300 and 1,620 Saudi Riyals from two victims after parading himself as a presidential and vice-presidential aide,” the statement read.
The ICPC further disclosed that Kabir had made a habit of exploiting opportunities linked to international religious trips to defraud his victims.
During one of such trips to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the suspect allegedly borrowed 11,000 Saudi Riyals from a fellow traveller and later presented a forged bank receipt as evidence of repayment.
“In another case, he issued a fake transfer receipt of ₦3.2 million to a travel agent who had arranged flight, hotel, and train bookings on his behalf,” the Commission added.
The ICPC said charges had already been filed against the suspect and that he would soon be arraigned before a competent court of law once the case was assigned.
