IEYDA Calls for Peace, Community Dialogue Amidst Ongoing Urban Renewal Projects

The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association, IEYDA, has appealed for calm and dialogue amidst the Kwara State Government’s urban renewal projects, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

In a statement signed by IEYDA’s National President, Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salau, and Secretary, Tajudeen Akanbi Abdullahi Esq, the association acknowledged the government’s commitment to urban renewal while sympathizing with affected property owners and residents.

They noted that although the projects aim to transform Ilorin into a modern city but have resulted in the demolition of several shops and properties, including Rotamedics, shops behind the Ministry of Youth, Ile-Film, Oloje Shops, and those opposite Kwara Hotel.

The association urged all parties to exercise restraint and seek peaceful resolution, emphasizing that community dialogue is crucial for embracing development.

Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salau, IEYDA’s National President, stated, “We commiserate with those affected by these demolitions and acknowledge the significant investment and personal economic loss they are facing.”

He emphasized the need for constructive dialogue between the government and property owners to resolve issues regarding demolished properties, complying with relevant laws.

IEYDA called on youths to promote peace and harmony, regardless of differences, and urged stakeholders to prioritize community interest and uphold values of peace, love, and harmony.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and development in Ilorin Emirate, engaging with the government and stakeholders to foster a conducive environment for growth and progress.
