The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has confirmed a major blow to terrorist networks with the killing of ISWAP Shura Council member Abu Yahya Al-Muhajir, signaling a turning point in counter-terror operations.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Major General Michael Onoja said troops across the North East neutralized numerous insurgent leaders, including Abu Yusu, and destroyed key terrorist camps in Borno and Yobe States.

Operations involved aerial reconnaissance, air strikes, and coordinated ground assaults under Operation HADIN KAI.

In addition, North West operations under FANSAN YAMMA and North Central theatres under SAVANNAH SHIELD and ENDURING PEACE disrupted leadership structures of insurgent groups, seizing weapons, ammunition, and logistics supplies.

“The elimination of senior commanders weakens the operational capacity of terrorist networks and protects citizens,” Major General Onoja said, stressing the surrender of over 197 insurgents and recovery of 458 firearms nationwide.

The military vowed to maintain pressure on remaining criminal and terrorist elements while adhering to international law.
