Kwara State has achieved the remarkable feat of being rated as the top-performing state in basic healthcare delivery in the entire North Central region.

This achievement puts the state ahead of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as well as other North Central states, securing the coveted first position.

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) recognised Kwara State’s outstanding progress in the healthcare sector over the past four years at an event held in Abuja on Wednesday night.

The state received the prestigious Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge award, a testament to its significant improvements in the sector.

The NGF Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge, initiated in 2019 under the ‘Seattle Declaration,’ evaluates the overall performance of primary healthcare delivery using various indicators.

These indicators include the government’s support and commitment, quality of service delivery, improvements in health indices and outcomes, community participation and ownership, among others.

Dr. Raji Razaq, the Commissioner for Health, and Dr. Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, graciously accepted the award on behalf of the state.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also graced the award ceremony, along with numerous serving and former governors from different parts of the country.
