By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman
The Kwara Garment Factory, a pivotal initiative championed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is set to become a reality with its operational launch scheduled for the first quarter (Q1) of 2024.
This was confirmed in a statement on Monday by Fafoluyi Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Kwara State Governor.
Olayinka said the factory, heralded as a cutting-edge facility, boasts 570 sewing machines and the first-of-its-kind cutting machine in West Africa, capable of cutting 10,000 polo shirts per 8-hour shift.

Additionally, a 9-color, 12-hand embroidery machine with a capacity of 1,000 stitches per minute and a 6-color, 9-hand embroidery machine have been installed and are undergoing pre-commissioning tests by the manufacturers.
Recall that Governor AbdulRazaq has appointed Hajia Bukola Adedeji, a seasoned UK-trained business administrator, as the Managing Director, entrusted with recruiting top-tier talent to drive the factory’s success.
Adedeji, known for her dedication since assuming office, will lead the recruitment efforts alongside a team comprising Stratica Consulting, a private sector HR practitioner, an Ilorin-based fashion expert (Hajjwels), and a representative from the Ministry of Business Innovation and Technology.
The meticulous selection process involves leveraging best practices and techniques to identify the most qualified candidates who have applied through the state government’s public job portal.
An additional round of shortlisted online applicants is scheduled for an aptitude test on December 14, 2023, for various operational roles within the factory.
The recruitment process will be continuous and conducted in batches.
