The Kwara Concerned Group has criticized the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration for failing to complete the General Tunde Idiagbon Flyover at Tanke Tipper Garage, Ilorin, nearly three years after its conception.

According to Pastor Buoye Olusegun David, spokesperson for the group, “The continued abandonment of the General Tunde Idiagbon Flyover is a slap on the face of Kwarans, and we demand immediate action from the state government.”

David noted that the flyover project, aimed at easing traffic congestion, was initiated on November 3, 2021, through a cabinet resolution addressed to the public by Hajia Sa’adat Moddibo Kawu, then Commissioner for Tertiary Education.

However, despite its noble objective, the project has been plagued by delays, with the initial 12-month completion timeline extended multiple times without cogent reasons.

David noted, “Assurances from the immediate past and incumbent Commissioners for Works, Engr. Rotimi Ilyasu and Hon. Abdulqowiy Olododo, have failed to materialize, stirring deep concerns about the management and oversight of this critical project.”

David also pointed out that reports and firsthand observations have yielded troubling indications of compromised quality and safety of the flyover, with damning accounts of substandard workmanship surfacing online.

The Kwara Concerned Group has demanded immediate action from the state government, calling for transparency and accountability in the project’s execution.

David emphasized, “The citizens of Kwara State are entitled to have confidence in the probity and calibre of public infrastructure undertakings. We entreat the government to accord precedence to the welfare and safety of its populace above all else and to expeditiously address the issues surrounding the Tanke Flyover.”

He further stated, “Should genuine safety apprehensions hinder the unveiling of the flyover, the government should give precedence to the well-being of its populace and consider the prospect of dismantling the structure if necessary.”
