Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in the state, describing the move as a major boost to ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.
The governor said the new military formation, which will be located in Omu Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, would strengthen the fight against banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
AbdulRazaq, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola, said the deployment of additional troops and military assets reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security in Kwara.

He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the prompt approval and processing of the state’s request for increased military presence.
The governor acknowledged the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA as well as the efforts of the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, DSS and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF in the sustained campaign against terrorism, banditry and other security threats.
“On behalf of the people and government of our state, I wholeheartedly thank Mr. President for yet another promise kept to the state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly strengthen counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various theatres,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
He added that the state government remained encouraged by ongoing multi-agency security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, rescuing kidnap victims and flushing out armed groups from forested areas.
The approval comes amid sustained efforts by security agencies and the Kwara State Government to contain rising security concerns in parts of the state and improve the safety of residents.
