Military Repels Drone-assisted Attack in Borno, Neutralises Terrorists

The Defence Headquarters on Friday said troops of Operation HADIN KAI repelled a drone-assisted attack by terrorists in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The military disclosed that the insurgents, who attacked with gun trucks, motorcycles and five drones, were overpowered after a fierce gun battle, resulting in the neutralisation of several fighters.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja while giving an update on operations conducted in February 2026.

Onoja said troops also intercepted a Toyota pick-up loaded with vehicle spares and fabrics allegedly destined for terrorists, as well as a truck conveying 460 bags of fertiliser in Bade LGA of Yobe State.
He added that 42 illegal miners were arrested in Gulani LGA of Yobe State in operations aimed at dismantling economic activities sustaining insurgency.
According to him, troops neutralised scores of terrorists, arrested 85 suspects, facilitated the surrender of 46 insurgents and their families, and rescued 104 kidnapped victims in the North-East within the month under review.
He said coordinated air and ground offensives across Abadam, Bama, Damboa, Damaturu and Geidam further degraded the operational capacity of Boko Haram and ISWAP elements.
The military assured Nigerians that operations would continue in line with rules of engagement and international humanitarian standards.
