The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Monday inaugurated the Committee for the Screening of Tour Operators ahead of the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The event, held at the Hajj House in Abuja, marked what the Commission described as a key step in preparations for next year’s pilgrimage.
Speaking during the inauguration, NAHCON’s Director of Administration, Alhaji Alidu Shuti, who represented the Chairman, said the Committee was carefully constituted to ensure transparency, efficiency and adherence to global standards in the selection of licensed operators.

He tasked the Committee with the responsibility of thoroughly scrutinising documents submitted by intending Hajj Tour Operators, verifying their validity and compliance with international best practices, before making recommendations to the Commission.
“You are expected to submit your recommendations to the leadership of the Commission for approval or otherwise, and produce a comprehensive report of your findings at the end of the exercise,” Shuti stated.
He stressed that the assignment must be concluded within one week, in line with the deadline set by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for the 2026 operations.
The Committee, which comprises senior management staff of the Commission alongside representatives from the Secretariat, is expected to recommend slot allocations only to qualified and competent operators.
On behalf of the Chairman, Alhaji Shuti inaugurated the Committee, charging members to discharge their duties diligently, objectively and in line with established guidelines.
He prayed for the success of their assignment, expressing optimism that their work would contribute significantly to the smooth conduct of the 2026 Hajj exercise.
