Two Years After: 24-Year-Old Nigerian Man Who Wedded 48-Year-Old American Citizen Joins U.S. Army

Suleiman Isah, the then 24 years old Nigerian man who married to a 48 years old American citizen, Janine Sanchez two years ago, has joined the United States Army.
Isah was recently inducted into the California Army National Guard, which is made up of 18,450 soldiers.
He shared the news on Friday, posting a photo of himself with the caption “Alhamdullillah- forever grateful”.

Isah and Sanchez met on social media and formalised their union in an elaborate wedding ceremony on December 13, 2020.
The wedding took place at MOPOL 52 Barracks Juma’at Mosque in Panshekara, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
Sanchez, a chef based in Lindon, California, traveled to Nigeria for the wedding.
The ceremony was attended by former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, who is also a relative of Isah’s father.
Sani who stood in then as Sanchez’s representative congratulated Isah on his new status in the military via his Facebook post.
He also responded to criticism he received for supporting the couple’s union, saying “They criticised me for this interracial marriage and now Suleiman Isah is happily married and got enlisted into the California Army National Guard. Congratulations.”
