The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, on Tuesday commended the Association of Corporate Online Editors for supporting the Commission’s initiatives, particularly ongoing National Identification Number, NIN enrolment across the country.

Coker-Odusote described the collaboration with the online editors as strategic and critical to deepening public awareness of NIMC’s mandate.

She spoke in Abuja while receiving members of ACOE who paid her a courtesy visit at the Commission’s headquarters.

Represented by senior directors, the DG, through the Director of Human Capital Management, Mrs Rhoda Jackden, said the Commission had recorded significant progress in staff welfare, administration and nationwide enrolment.

She noted that the agency trained no fewer than 3,700 staff in the past year across various cadres, including management-level officers, to strengthen service delivery.

Jackden added that NIMC had intensified ward-level enrolment to ensure every Nigerian obtains a NIN, stressing that the identity number had become essential for accessing government services.

“Currently, NIMC is focused on enrolment at the ward level to ensure that every Nigerian is captured. This initiative, launched on February 16, 2026, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drive to improve service delivery and ensure inclusivity,” she said.

She added that the Commission was working closely with its Front-End Partners to ensure that all Nigerians were enrolled in preparation for the issuance of the general multipurpose card.

The DG also expressed appreciation to ACOE for conferring on her the Exemplary Public Service Delivery Award, describing the honour as encouraging.

Earlier, the Chairman of ACOE, Sola Akingboye, said Coker-Odusote’s leadership since assuming office in 2023 marked a turning point in Nigeria’s digital identity development.

He disclosed that NIN enrolment had surpassed 120 million, significantly expanding the national database.

According to him, operational reforms introduced under her leadership led to a 40 per cent reduction in extortion and unauthorised charges at enrolment centres, while a two-year backlog of payments owed to Front-End Partners was cleared.

Akingboye added that over 800 mobile enrolment devices and 2,500 additional systems were deployed to improve access, especially in underserved communities.

On staff welfare, he said the implementation of a 25–30 per cent salary increase approved by the President, promotion of over 3,000 staff and introduction of welfare initiatives had strengthened morale and productivity.

He reaffirmed ACOE’s commitment to ethical journalism and pledged sustained media support to project the Commission’s reforms and achievements.

The visit featured the presentation of ACOE’s symbolic muffler to the DG in recognition of her contributions to Nigeria’s digital identity expansion.

Among those present were NIMC’s Director of Media and Communications, Kayode Adegoke; Director, Office of the DG, Mr Elvis Alagbegbe; Director of Human Capital Management, Mrs Rhoda Jackden; and other management staff.
