The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has described the successful hosting of the 18th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV 2025) in Abuja as a major achievement for Nigeria’s digital economy.
The conference, held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, brought together researchers, policymakers, and technology experts from across the world for four days of discussions on digital governance and innovation.
NITDA said the event supported the government’s plan to drive economic diversification and industrial growth through technology and digital transformation.

It added that the conference provided a platform for new partnerships, research collaborations, and knowledge sharing that would further strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
The United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) organised the conference, which attracted participants from 33 countries.
A total of 151 research papers were submitted by 308 authors, with Nigeria recording the highest number of contributions—102 authors.
NITDA explained that Nigeria’s strong participation reflects its consistent investment in digital talent development, research support, and innovation.
The agency said these efforts are paying off as Nigerian researchers continue to gain international recognition.
A major highlight of the conference was the Best Paper Award won by Robert Ifeonu of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
His work, titled “Micro-Transformation Framework for Public Sector Innovation: Catalysing Resilient, Outcome-Driven Digital Governance,” was recognised as the best in the research category.
The Director of UNU-EGOV, Professor Delfina Soares, commended NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, for his leadership in securing Abuja as the host city and ensuring the success of the event.
She said NITDA’s local coordination and partnerships boosted the value of the conference and strengthened Africa’s position in digital governance research.
NITDA said hosting ICEGOV 2025 added economic value by attracting visitors, promoting investment opportunities, and showcasing Nigeria as a growing hub for digital innovation.
It noted that lessons from the conference would help improve service delivery, enhance public sector efficiency, and deepen the nation’s digital transformation.
The agency promised to sustain the momentum from the conference and continue promoting Nigeria’s active role in global digital governance discussions.
