The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, has urged youths in Jigawa State to embrace Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills, emphasizing its pivotal role in driving the nation’s digital economy.

In Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, Inuwa made the call during the launch of a capacity building training program sponsored by the state government for 1000 youths.

This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Jigawa State government, NITDA, Base University, and IDEAS through the Jigawa State Development Agency for Youth Empowerment and Employment, aims to empower youths and explore economic opportunities for accelerated development.

In his address, Inuwa stressed the importance of ICT skills for sustainable development and self-reliance, noting the global shift from paper qualifications to skills-based success.

He highlighted the significance of training 1000 youths in emerging technologies to restore Jigawa’s prominence in the ICT sector, harking back to its leadership position in the early 2000s.

Inuwa further affirmed NITDA’s commitment to partnering with state governments nationwide to enhance digital literacy, thereby advancing the national digital economy and combating poverty-related challenges.

Governor Umar Namadi, represented by the state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Usman Gumel, commended NITDA for its intervention programs across various sectors, attributing the state’s achievements to these initiatives within a year in office.

Speakers at the flag-off ceremony, including Dr. Habibu Ubale, Director General of the Jigawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment and Employment, and representatives from collaborating organizations, echoed the importance of providing ICT skills to youths for sustainable economic development.

The training, focused on five key areas with emphasis on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Development, aims to nurture young talents capable of spearheading digital development in Jigawa State and beyond.
