The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA has signed strategic Memoranda of Understanding with two Canadian technology companies, Goose FL and Fireflies AI, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and expand its global technology footprint.

The agreements were signed during the Nigeria–Canada Investment Forum and the Nigeria Investment Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada, and witnessed by the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.

The partnerships are expected to support Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda through the deployment of innovative technology solutions, artificial intelligence infrastructure and digital capacity development.

Under the agreements, the partners will focus on expanding financial inclusion by developing technology-driven solutions that will increase access to digital financial services and create sustainable economic opportunities for underserved communities.

The collaboration will also support the development and deployment of local AI infrastructure and services, with the objective of strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to build, manage and derive value from artificial intelligence technologies within the country.

NITDA said the partnerships would further contribute to building a stronger digital economy through global partnerships, technology transfer, innovation and human capital development.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s ambition to grow Nigeria into a $1tn economy by 2030, with digital technology, innovation and human capital development identified as key drivers of the economic transformation.

The agency said the agreements demonstrated its commitment to forging strategic international partnerships that would position Nigeria as a major player in the global digital economy.

It added that such collaborations would ensure that emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, translate into tangible benefits for Nigerian citizens, businesses and the wider economy.
