The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA has called for stronger stakeholder collaboration to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation and improve the implementation of its strategic roadmap and action plan.

The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, made the call at the Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan 2.0 Stakeholders’ Engagement held at Lagos Business School, Lagos State.

Inuwa, who was represented by the Director of the Special Duties Directorate, Dr Aristotle Onumo, said sustained partnerships were necessary to achieve the agency’s digital development objectives.

He commended the leadership of Lagos Business School for maintaining its partnership with the agency, adding that collective efforts and stakeholder contributions were essential to delivering meaningful results.

According to him, the strategic roadmap was developed through extensive consultations with stakeholders and should not be treated as an internal document belonging exclusively to NITDA.

He said the engagement provided an opportunity to review implementation, assess progress, determine whether existing priorities remained relevant and identify areas requiring adjustments.

The director-general also stressed the need to evaluate the impact of the agency’s programmes and measure progress against commitments made to stakeholders.

Inuwa said NITDA had been evolving from a traditional regulatory agency into an ecosystem platform that encourages collaboration and co-creation in developing digital solutions.

He explained that the approach involved working more closely with stakeholders to create an enabling environment for innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic development.

The NITDA boss said the agency had spent the past three years advancing the transition and was approaching the final phase of the process.

He urged stakeholders to renew their commitment to the implementation of the roadmap to ensure that its objectives were achieved.

Inuwa reaffirmed the agency’s vision of building a digitally enabled Nigeria capable of promoting inclusive economic growth through technological innovation.

He identified the roadmap’s eight strategic pillars as central to achieving the vision, urging stakeholders to assess progress across critical areas, including digital skills development, regulation, infrastructure, digital services, entrepreneurship and innovation.

He also called for an assessment of the implementation of the Nigeria Startup Act and its contribution to strengthening the country’s startup ecosystem.

According to him, the involvement of relevant stakeholders across the digital economy remained essential to ensuring that the agency’s interventions addressed emerging challenges and reflected the needs of the sector.

He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration would strengthen implementation and accelerate Nigeria’s digital development.

The director-general urged participants to embrace the partnership approach and work collectively towards building a digitally enabled Nigeria that could serve as a catalyst for digital transformation across Africa.
