The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, has restated the agency’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s digital economy through green technology and innovation.

Inuwa made the declaration at the 3rd Technology Ecosystem Dialogue, themed “Green Tech and Energy Revolution: Transforming Business and Society,” organised by the Young Innovators of Nigeria in Abuja.

Commending the organisers, he described the dialogue as “timely and visionary,” noting that it showcased the role of Nigerian youths in shaping the country’s technological future.

“TED 2025 once again proves that Nigeria’s youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but the change-makers of today,” he said.

The NITDA boss explained that the dialogue’s theme aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially its focus on economic diversification through industrialisation, digitisation, and innovation.

Listing the agency’s interventions, Inuwa highlighted initiatives such as iHatch, IgniteHer, We Elevate, Renewed Hope Innovation Nest, and the National Innovation Challenge, as well as the establishment of innovation hubs nationwide.

He added that partnerships on frontier technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, blockchain, and clean energy were central to the agency’s roadmap.

“These initiatives are designed to ensure innovation is inclusive, reaching youths, women, and MSMEs across Nigeria,” he said, stressing that green technology adoption was no longer optional but a necessity.

Delivering the keynote, sustainability expert Dr Krakrafaa Bestman said Nigeria’s renewable energy endowments offered vast opportunities to close electricity gaps and drive development.

He outlined the country’s target of generating 30 per cent of electricity from renewables by 2030 and deploying 5GW of solar capacity, citing projects such as the Nigerian Electrification Project and community mini-grids.

Bestman also called for reforms to attract investments, stronger private sector commitment to clean energy, and innovations adaptable to local needs.

He, however, warned against hazards linked to renewable systems, including battery waste and poorly installed solar panels, urging strict safety standards and lifecycle management.

“Green technologies must not only drive businesses but also protect the future,” he said.
