Police Declare SS3 Student Wanted for Beating Teacher to Death

By SAKA Idowu Eletu

Michael Ogbeife, an SS3 student at Erhimu Secondary School in Abraka, Delta State, has been declared wanted for fatally beating a teacher at the school, Joseph Ossai, leading to his death.

After committing the criminal conduct on Thursday, Michael is said to be on the run.

According to reports, Michael got into a confrontation with the teacher on that tragic day, and the teacher passed away during the struggle.

Michael’s younger sister, Promise Ogbeife, who was involved in an argument with a student, was reportedly flogged by the deceased teacher, who was believed to be in charge of Agricultural Science and Biology in the school until his death.

Michael was reportedly upset by the teacher’s decision to flog his sister, and the enraged SS3 student got into a fight with the teacher.

According to sources, Michael stormed out of the school after his sister was flogged, then returned, headed straight to the staff room for a confrontation with the teacher.

Earlier, Michael allegedly ran home to obtain a charm before fighting the teacher.

As a result, the teacher was rushed to a nearby private hospital, from where he was referred to the government hospital, after which was pronounced dead.

Reacting to the gory incident, the proprietor of the school, Mr Erhimu, told journalists that he was awaiting full details of the matter, as he was not around when the incident happened.

The visibly worried proprietor has however directed that the school be shut till Monday noting that he had been to the police station over the matter.

Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, told newsmen that the suspect is on the run.

“The suspect is nowhere to be found for now, but his sister is in protective custody”, the PPRO said just as he insisted that efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect.
