PTAD, ICPC Sign MoU to Curb Pension Fraud

Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to strengthen the fight against corruption in the administration of the Federal Government’s Defined Benefit Pension Scheme (DBS).
The pact, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed in Abuja by the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Mrs. Tolulope Odunaiya, and the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).
The agreement provides a framework for collaboration in monitoring, investigating, and preventing corrupt practices within the nation’s pension system.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Odunaiya described the MoU as a reflection of the agency’s resolve to entrench transparency and accountability in pension administration.
She said the collaboration would help block leakages, protect pensioners’ entitlements, and align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“By leveraging our combined strengths, we can significantly enhance our capacity to prevent, detect and prosecute corruption-related offences in the DBS. This partnership will advance transparency and accountability while ensuring good governance for every pensioner and stakeholder,” Odunaiya said.
In his remarks, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Aliyu, noted that the joint effort would boost the integrity of the pension system.
He commended PTAD’s increasingly digitised database and stressed that combining it with ICPC’s investigative and prosecutorial powers would create a formidable tool against corruption.
“This partnership underscores our shared mandate to promote good governance, strengthen accountability and safeguard Nigerians’ welfare from fraudulent practices. It is a strong step toward curbing corrupt activities in the pension sector,” Aliyu said.
The MoU, according to both agencies, signals a new phase in pension reform, aimed at restoring public confidence and protecting retirees from the scourge of corruption.
