The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has honored 12 distinguished journalists, including five Nigerians, at the inaugural ECOWAS Journalists Excellence Awards held in Banjul, The Gambia.

 

Raymond Enoch, a Nigerian journalist, was among the awardees recognized for his outstanding contributions to regional integration, transparency, democratic values, and public awareness of ECOWAS initiatives.

 

The awards ceremony, part of ECOWAS@50 celebrations, highlighted the crucial role journalists play in shaping public discourse and promoting regional unity.

ECOWAS Commission President’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Kolley, while presenting the awards emphasized that journalists are “agents of accountability, defenders of democracy, and catalysts for social change.”

 

The five Nigerian journalists honored alongside Raymond Enoch are Marcelina Ezekhome, Solomon Odeniyi, Paul Ejime, and Emmanuel Ukpo.

 

They were recognized for their impactful storytelling, outstanding reporting, and contributions to regional integration.

 

The ECOWAS Journalists Excellence Award aims to promote a vibrant, ethical, and forward-looking media landscape across West Africa.

 

The awardees were selected by an independent seven-member jury led by veteran Gambian communications expert, Mr. Abdoulie Gassama.
