SGF Commissions Electric Motor Bikes to Boost FRSC Operations
By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has Tuesday commissioned a fleet of electric motor bikes for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), saying the initiative will enhance traffic management, intelligence gathering and national security support.
The bikes were unveiled at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen road safety administration and improve operational efficiency of the Corps.
Akume described the intervention as a “game-changer,” noting that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to modernising road safety management and supporting security operations across the country.

According to him, the deployment of the electric motor bikes will improve rapid response, surveillance and crime prevention, particularly along critical road corridors where conventional patrol vehicles face operational limitations.
Speaking at the event, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, said the initiative was timely and strategic, adding that it reflects what he described as the strong support the Corps has continued to receive from the Tinubu administration.
He said the provision of the electric motor bikes further reiterates the expanding role of the FRSC within Nigeria’s national security framework, beyond traffic control to intelligence support and emergency response.
“The bikes will be immediately deployed along key corridors nationwide to enhance traffic control, enforcement, strategic intervention patrols, escort duties and special assignments, especially in areas that are difficult for patrol vehicles to access,” Mohammed said.
He explained that the improved mobility, speed and visibility offered by the bikes would enhance traffic flow, enable quicker response to road traffic crashes and help decongest highways, particularly during festive seasons and peak travel periods.
The Corps Marshal also noted that criminal activities are increasingly taking place along highways, adding that FRSC operatives have continued to provide early-warning intelligence, emergency assistance and timely information to sister security agencies.
According to him, the electric motor bikes will further strengthen the Corps’ capacity to support ongoing security operations and deepen inter-agency collaboration in the protection of lives and property.
Mohammed added that the initiative is in line with global best practices in sustainable and technology-driven mobility, stressing that the Corps remains committed to innovation that improves operational efficiency while supporting environmental sustainability.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior government officials, FRSC management staff and representatives of sister security agencies.
