The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has received two new 100MVA power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina State as part of efforts to strengthen the national electricity grid.
TCN disclosed that the transformers were delivered to its Kano Region on Thursday, July 9, 2026, for deployment at the new substation, which is expected to improve bulk power transmission to Katsina State and the North-West region.
According to the company, the delivery forms part of its strategic grid expansion programme aimed at reinforcing the national transmission network and improving electricity supply across the country.

TCN explained that the transformers are critical components for the completion of the substation and noted that, upon installation, testing and commissioning, they would increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts.
The company added that the completed substation would improve the reliability, flexibility and operational efficiency of electricity transmission in the region while enhancing its capacity to evacuate more bulk power to the Distribution Companies serving Katsina State and neighbouring communities.
It stated that the project would also support efforts to meet the increasing electricity demand in the state by providing a more robust transmission infrastructure.
The transmission company described the Katsina Transmission Substation as one of several ongoing projects across the country aimed at expanding, modernising and reinforcing Nigeria’s national grid to improve power delivery nationwide.
