TCN Seeks Intervention as Enugu Substation Awaits Commissioning
By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has said the 9th Mile 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Enugu State remains idle despite its completion in 2022 due to the non-completion of the 22-kilometre New Haven–9th Mile 132kV double-circuit transmission line.
The disclosure was made during a visit by the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Engr. Dr. Osita Ngwu, to the substation.
The senator was received by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Sub-Region, Engr. Jude Madu, and other management staff.

Speaking during the visit, Madu explained that although the substation was completed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company in 2022, it could not be commissioned because the transmission line required to energise the facility had yet to be completed.
He identified Right-of-Way constraints as the major obstacle delaying the completion of the approximately 22-kilometre transmission line.
According to him, completing the project is essential to the energisation and commissioning of the substation, which is expected to improve bulk electricity supply to the 9th Mile industrial hub and neighbouring communities.
Madu also stressed the need for improved security around the facility to protect the critical power infrastructure from vandalism before it is commissioned.
Responding, Senator Ngwu acknowledged the challenges affecting the project and assured TCN of his support in resolving the Right-of-Way issues.
He also pledged to work with relevant stakeholders to strengthen security around the facility and safeguard the transmission infrastructure.
The visit ended with a guided tour of the substation’s control room, switchyard and other key installations.
