The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has commenced urgent rehabilitation works on four vandalised towers along the Ikot Abasi-Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line in Akwa Ibom State.

The affected structures are Towers J4 and N9 to N12, which were recently damaged by vandals, disrupting the integrity of the transmission infrastructure along the route.

The Regional Manager, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Nasir Bello, disclosed this during an inspection of the rehabilitation works on Friday, September 25, 2026.

Bello was represented at the inspection by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, Dr Ubani Raymond.

Raymond said the inspection was carried out to ensure that the rehabilitation works complied strictly with approved engineering specifications and to allow necessary adjustments to be made promptly where required.

He said significant progress had been recorded on the project, adding that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled while their bases had been recast.

Raymond appealed to residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and protect critical electricity infrastructure in their communities from vandals and other criminal elements.

He said the protection of transmission facilities was essential to ensuring reliable electricity supply and preventing disruptions caused by attacks on power infrastructure.

Also speaking, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for continuous monitoring of the rehabilitation works to ensure compliance with engineering standards and the quality of construction.

Azuh commended the TCN management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the execution of the rehabilitation project, noting that the arrangement was expected to facilitate the speedy restoration of the affected infrastructure.

He, however, said the difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed down the pace of work.

The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far, commending the contractors for their commitment to the project.

He also acknowledged their understanding of the urgency of completing the rehabilitation works and restoring the affected transmission infrastructure.
