TDF Blames ADC for “Spurious Claims” Against Tinubu, Cites Coalition Collapse
By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman
The Democratic Front (TDF) has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), attributing what it described as “spurious claims” against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the alleged collapse of a proposed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group dismissed recent allegations made by the ADC against President Tinubu as “disgraceful” and politically motivated.
The ADC had, through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused President Tinubu of allegedly influencing the creation of a group identified as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to weaken opposition parties.

Reacting, the TDF described the allegation as “immature” and a reflection of what it called the opposition party’s “political frustration” following the reported disintegration of its coalition arrangement.
“It is disgraceful and embarrassing for the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, to accuse President Bola Tinubu of creating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to surreptitiously destroy the opposition,” the statement read.
The group further accused the ADC of inconsistency, noting that the party had previously alleged that the President was plotting to entrench a one-party state.
According to TDF, the latest allegations reflected what it termed a “lack of political discipline and internal coherence” within the opposition party.
The group also claimed that the ADC had failed to strengthen its internal structures, instead focusing on what it described as “false narratives” against the ruling party.
It added that the reported collapse of the opposition coalition—allegedly led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—had exposed divisions within the opposition camp.
TDF also referenced former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in its statement, alleging that internal disagreements among opposition figures contributed to the breakdown of the coalition effort.
The group further insisted that President Tinubu had no connection to the alleged political developments within the ADC, urging Nigerians to disregard what it described as “baseless accusations.”
“It is now very clear to the public that the ADC and its discredited leadership dissipates more energy on unfounded accusations than on strengthening its internal organs,” the statement added.
TDF urged Nigerians to view the opposition parties as being driven by personal ambitions rather than national interest, adding that recent political developments within the opposition camp reflect internal disorganisation.
