TDF Faults Intersociety’s Claim of 1,402 Christian Killings, Seeks Probe

The Democratic Front, TDF has dismissed claims by an Onitsha-based group, Intersociety, alleging that 1,402 Christians were killed in 96 days, describing the report as false, malicious, and aimed at tarnishing Nigeria’s image.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said the allegation was part of a sustained campaign of calumny that should not be ignored by authorities.

The group alleged that Intersociety, led by Emeka Umeagbalasi, had a history of circulating misleading narratives on insecurity, which it claimed had previously influenced comments by United States President Donald Trump regarding Nigeria.

According to the statement, such claims undermine ongoing efforts by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to combat terrorism and restore security across the country.

“It is equally disconcerting to note that Intersociety and its leaders have been repeatedly linked to IPOB, a terrorist organisation in Nigeria, by the Army and other security agencies,” the statement read.

The group further criticised the methodology of the report, noting that it lacked verifiable details on the alleged killings.

“It is worrisome and irresponsible that Intersociety made such an inciting and weighty accusation without providing specific details on when, where, and how the alleged killings were carried out across the country,” it added.

While acknowledging the existence of inter-tribal and interreligious violence in Nigeria, TDF maintained that both Christians and Muslims had been victims of insecurity.

It accused Intersociety of presenting a one-sided narrative with exaggerated figures intended to damage Nigeria’s international reputation.

“For Intersociety to portray the situation as a one-sided attack against Christians, with an exaggerated figure of killings, is heinous, atrocious, and seditious against the state,” the statement said.

The group also called on the Federal Government to investigate the claims and hold the organisation accountable.

“It is commonsensical to agree that having allegedly created a diplomatic rift between Nigeria and the United States, Intersociety may continue to cause further damage if these allegations are not investigated and acted upon promptly,” it stated.

The Democratic Front, TDF urged the government to ensure that the claims were not ignored, adding that the organisation should provide verifiable evidence to support its assertions or face legal consequences.

“It is unfortunate for any individual or group to peddle deliberate falsehood capable of inciting religious acrimony and destabilising the country at a time the government is intensifying efforts to tackle insecurity,” the statement added.
