Tinubu Pledge to Raise Nigerians’ Standard of Living says Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the administration of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to raising Nigerians’ standard of living.

Shettima made this statement on Tuesday in Abuja during a courtesy visit from a delegation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which was headed by Dr. Natalia Kanem, the organization’s Executive Director.

The Vice President claims that a few of the government’s planned programs and initiatives show the administration’s determination.

In addition, he stated that while there was beauty in numbers, it was equally critical to have high-quality numbers and that the Renewed Hope administration was dedicated to maximizing the potential of the vast population of the nation.

Shettima added, “The health and vitality of any nation is measured by the way women and the girl child are treated.” This was the foundation for the administration’s emphasis on women and children.

“We can make our communities better places for everyone by educating the girl child,” he continued.

He expressed gratitude to the UNFPA for its years of support to Nigeria, noting that the Federal Government, led by Tinubu, had come to share the organization’s ambitions and objectives.

The UNFPA is one organization that has recognized the difficulties facing the Nigerian people throughout the years, the speaker continued.

“You have picked up where your predecessor, the late Babatunde Osotimehin, left off; you are doing an amazing job.”

As for Kanem, she stated that the main reason she traveled to Nigeria was to attend the regional launch of the 2024 State of World Population (SWOP) Report.

The 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), held in Cairo, is highlighted in the report along with the achievements and unfinished business.

In order to take advantage of demographic dividends and guarantee equitable development, she emphasized the significance of an accurate census.

In the course of the conference, Kanem acknowledged Nigeria as a commendable model and applauded its efforts to raise women and girls.

She emphasized that UNFPA is dedicated to relieving women and girls of their burdens, especially through programs like midwife training.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the subject for the fund’s yearly SWOP report launch 2024 is “Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World,”

It draws attention to the enormous discrepancies that African women suffer, since they have a 130-fold higher risk of maternal fatalities than their European counterparts and Northern America.

It also highlights the fact that more than half of maternal deaths that may be prevented happen in nations that are experiencing crises or conflicts.

The research draws attention to the higher incidence of maternal death among African American women in the Americas, as well as the heightened risk experienced by disabled and indigenous women.

The report’s launch, which is set for this Wednesday in Abuja, will convene important stakeholders, decision-makers, and representatives from a range of industries to deliberate over its conclusions. (NAN)
