President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending months of speculation over the political future of his vice.
The decision puts to rest widespread rumours that the President was considering replacing Shettima as part of a broader political strategy ahead of the next general election.
INCNews247 observes speculation over the Vice President’s position had dominated political discussions in recent months, with reports suggesting that the Presidency was weighing various options to strengthen the ruling party’s chances in the 2027 poll.

Although neither the Presidency nor the ruling party officially confirmed the reports during the period of uncertainty, the rumours triggered intense debate among party members and political observers.
The renewal of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket is seen as a vote of confidence in the Vice President and an indication of the administration’s desire to maintain continuity as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the election.
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have welcomed the decision, describing it as a step that reinforces cohesion within the party’s leadership.
Opposition parties, however, are expected to intensify scrutiny of the administration’s performance as political campaigns begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
With the uncertainty over the Vice President’s position now resolved, political attention is expected to shift to the ruling party’s broader campaign strategy and the response of opposition parties as the race to the 2027 general election gathers pace.
