The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has commenced early preparations for medical operations ahead of the 2026 Hajj, with a call for strict compliance with health guidelines issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, made this known on Tuesday during a meeting with State Medical Team Leads at the Conference Hall of the Hajj House, Abuja.

Usman said the meeting was convened to initiate structured planning for healthcare delivery to Nigerian pilgrims and to review the 2026 Hajj health guidelines, which he described as binding on all participating countries.

He stressed that Nigeria must comply fully with the Saudi health regulations, noting that the guidelines would shape operational decisions for the pilgrimage.

According to him, healthcare delivery during Hajj remains a core responsibility that requires early planning, effective coordination and strict adherence to established standards.

The NAHCON boss commended the state medical team leads for their prompt response to the commission’s invitation, saying it reflected their commitment to the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims.

“NAHCON, as the Hajj regulator in Nigeria, takes this responsibility seriously. We are determined to ensure that medical services for Nigerian pilgrims meet acceptable international and Saudi standards,” he said.

Usman added that achieving this would require discipline, professionalism and unity of purpose among the commission, state governments and medical teams.

He assured participants of NAHCON’s full support, pledging continued guidance, coordination and oversight to ensure effective medical preparedness for the 2026 Hajj.

The meeting, he said, was part of efforts to ensure that no aspect of pilgrims’ healthcare is left to chance during the exercise.
