NITDA Highlights Critical Role of Data in Driving Sustainable Digital Economy
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has emphasized the crucial role of data in driving a sustainable digital economy in Nigeria.
This statement was made at the recently concluded 2024 Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge, where the agency stressed the need for safe and responsible data utilization.
According to NITDA‘s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, data sovereignty is essential for ensuring Nigeria’s digital future.

Represented by the Director of Information Technology Infrastructure Solutions Department, Mr Oladejo Olawumi, Inuwa noted that by prioritizing data security and privacy, the agency aims to foster a thriving digital ecosystem that benefits both individuals and businesses.
The Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge, organized by NITDA’s Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), showcased the talent and innovation of Nigerian tech entrepreneurs.
The event reinforced the agency’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant digital community and empowering the next generation of tech leaders.
Inuwa noted that the event aligns with the agency’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) 2.0, which aims to position Nigeria as a leader in the global digital economy.
He encouraged participants to take advantage of the Nigeria Startup Act (NSA) in promoting their solutions, highlighting the importance of home-grown innovation in driving Nigeria’s digital economy.
To support indigenous digital innovation, NITDA plans to establish Innovation Nests in three states, with plans to expand to six more by the end of the year.

The National Coordinator of the ONDI, Ms Victoria Fabunmi, emphasized the agency’s commitment to advancing digital innovations through strategic initiatives.
She noted that the innovation challenge aligns with the agency’s SRAP and fulfills the Ministry’s blueprint pillars of Knowledge, Innovation, and Policy.
