The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to improving the welfare, logistics and operational capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) as the military marked the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Regimental Dinner Night in Abuja.

The event, which held on Tuesday at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja, was attended by senior military officers and other stakeholders, and featured solemn remembrance of fallen heroes alongside military traditions and fellowship.

He said the occasion provided an opportunity to honour serving officers and men for their professionalism, courage and resilience, while remembering fallen personnel who paid the supreme price in defence of the nation.

According to him, troops of the Armed Forces continue to confront complex security challenges across the country with dedication and professionalism, often under difficult conditions, adding that the relative peace and stability enjoyed in parts of the country are products of their sacrifices.

The minister paid tribute to fallen officers and soldiers, noting that their sacrifices remain engraved in the nation’s history.

He also commended their families, whom he described as critical partners in national sacrifice.

General Musa assured personnel of the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing troop welfare, logistics support and operational readiness, stressing that the President remains committed to ensuring that the Armed Forces are well-equipped and adequately motivated to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

In his welcome address, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, described the Regimental Dinner Night as one of the Armed Forces’ enduring traditions that promotes discipline, unity and remembrance.

The CDS commended the gallantry of Nigerian troops across various theatres of operation, saying their conduct has continued to strengthen civil-military relations and public confidence in the Armed Forces.

He also acknowledged the role of military families, noting that their support remains vital to sustaining morale and operational effectiveness.

General Oluyede further emphasised the need for sustained collaboration among the military, other security agencies and communities in addressing terrorism and other threats to national security.

Highlights of the dinner included the presentation of medals and awards to senior officers in recognition of leadership, gallantry and meritorious service.
