The Tinubu Media Volunteers, TMV have commended the Federal Government for approving N48bn for the upgrade of engineering workshops and laboratories in 12 selected universities across the country.

The group said the intervention would significantly strengthen technological education and equip Nigerian graduates with practical skills required for national development.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group described the move as timely and necessary.

According to the statement, the intervention will rehabilitate and equip modern workshops and laboratories with industry-relevant facilities aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical competence.

The group noted that the project would focus on the rehabilitation of engineering and technological faculties in the selected universities.

It added that the funds would also be used to upgrade existing facilities and support the construction of new engineering workshops in the institutions.

The volunteers said the initiative reflected the commitment of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening skills acquisition and promoting economic diversification.

The group also aligned with the position of the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, who described the intervention as a strategic initiative aimed at upgrading laboratories, workshops and research facilities in Nigerian universities.

According to the group, the initiative will help position higher institutions as hubs of innovation and practical problem-solving.

TMV further noted that the Federal Government had unlocked $552m under the HOPE-EDU Programme to accelerate basic education reform in the country.

The programme, it said, is co-financed by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education.

According to the group, the initiative supports measurable reforms in line with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.

The group maintained that the interventions were clear evidence of the Federal Government’s plan to reposition the nation’s education sector and strengthen it as a driver of national development.
