The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA and the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC have activated coordinated measures to strengthen cybersecurity following recent concerns affecting aspects of the CAC’s digital systems.

NITDA disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, Hadiza Umar, who said the move was part of efforts to safeguard critical government infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

According to her, both agencies have already triggered response and assurance mechanisms in line with national cybersecurity frameworks.

“In response to recent concerns affecting aspects of CAC’s digital systems, NITDA and CAC have activated necessary response and assurance mechanisms to safeguard critical infrastructure and maintain service integrity,” Umar said.

She reiterated the agency’s directive to Ministries, Departments and Agencies to adopt proactive cybersecurity measures in line with the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy 2021.

“NITDA reiterates that all MDAs must immediately review and reinforce their cybersecurity architecture to address emerging threats targeting government systems and sensitive data,” she added.

Umar explained that MDAs are expected to conduct comprehensive security assessments and address identified vulnerabilities without delay.

“All MDAs are required to conduct thorough security assessments, remediate identified vulnerabilities, and strengthen access controls across critical platforms,” she said.

She further emphasised the need for improved data protection and system resilience across government institutions.

“Agencies must enhance data protection mechanisms, maintain effective backup and disaster recovery systems, and improve monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to suspicious activities,” Umar stated.

The NITDA spokesperson also stressed the importance of timely incident reporting to enable coordinated responses to cyber threats.

“There is a critical need for functional incident response frameworks, including the prompt reporting of cybersecurity breaches for coordinated intervention,” she said.

She noted that detailed cybersecurity guidelines had already been issued to MDAs to strengthen resilience across public sector digital infrastructure.

“These measures are aimed at improving the overall security posture of government institutions and ensuring the continued protection of national digital assets,” Umar added.
