A suspected vandal was crushed to death after a transmission tower collapsed along the 330kV Ughelli-Benin transmission line in Delta State, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has said.
INCNews247 learnt the incident occurred on Saturday after the TCN linesmen discovered the body during an intensive patrol of the transmission line.
The patrol was conducted by the Delta Sub-Region, Lines Maintenance Department of TCN following the tripping of the Ughelli-Benin 330kV transmission line on earth fault.

According to a statement issued by TCN management on Saturday, the patrol team traced the fault to Tower 101, which had collapsed.
The body of the suspected vandal was subsequently found crushed between the members of the collapsed tower.
Further inspection by the team revealed that Tower 101 on the adjacent Ughelli-Sapele 330kV transmission line had also been seriously vandalised.
The company, however, said the second tower was still standing as of the time of the report.
TCN condemned the vandalism and urged host communities and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
The company said the fight against the vandalism of electricity infrastructure required collective efforts from communities, security agencies and other stakeholders.
“This incident is a tragic reminder of the extreme dangers of tampering with power infrastructure,” TCN said.
The company added that vandalism not only caused power outages and damage to national assets but also endangered the lives of those involved.
“Protecting power infrastructure is a civic responsibility. Stop the vandals, or they will stop power for us all,” the company warned.
