The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has commissioned a new 150MVA, 330/132/33kV power transformer at its Afam IV Transmission Substation in Rivers State.
INCNews247 reports that the new transformer, commissioned on Wednesday, has doubled the substation’s transformation capacity from 120MVA to 240MVA.
TCN disclosed this in a statement signed by its management on Thursday.
The company said the project would significantly enhance its transmission capacity to the load centre of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, enabling the distribution company to take more electricity for onward distribution to consumers in Port Harcourt metropolis and its environs.

The development is expected to strengthen the capacity of the transmission network serving the region and improve the availability of electricity for electricity consumers connected to the PHEDC network.
According to TCN, the project is part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at improving the country’s electricity transmission infrastructure and enhancing power supply.
The company said the commissioning represented another step towards expanding Nigeria’s transmission capacity and ensuring that more available generation could be evacuated and delivered to distribution companies.
TCN said the increased transformation capacity at Afam IV would provide additional headroom for electricity off-take by PHEDC, thereby supporting improved power distribution within Port Harcourt and surrounding areas.
