The Tinubu Media Volunteers, TMV has commended the Federal Government for the payment of N18.96bn in outstanding back-end computation arrears to 3,958 former employees of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria under the Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.
The group said the latest disbursement of N9.476bn represented the outstanding 50 per cent balance of the arrears owed to the affected pensioners.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, TMV said the latest payment brought the total amount released to the pensioners to N18.958bn.
The group recalled that the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate had in June 2026 paid N9.482bn, representing the first 50 per cent tranche of the outstanding arrears.

“With the latest disbursement, it brings the total to N18.958bn and fully settles the outstanding pensions owed to the retired PHCN staff,” the statement said.
TMV described the payment as a milestone in the settlement of pension liabilities, saying it demonstrated the Federal Government’s attention to the welfare of retired workers.
The group also cited the settlement of outstanding Nigerian Airways pension liabilities as another example of the administration’s efforts to address long-standing pension obligations.
It said some of the liabilities had remained unresolved for more than two decades.
“Gladly, the Federal Government is addressing these issues one after the other. It also shows that the Federal Government is rewarding the pensioners for their meritorious service to the country and that the country’s senior citizens will always be recognised and rewarded for their sacrifices,” TMV said.
The group urged the government to sustain the payment of outstanding pension obligations and other liabilities owed to retired workers.
It added that the settlement of the arrears would provide relief to former PHCN workers who had waited for years for the completion of their pension payments.
