By Kaosara Oladimeji Olayemi

The death toll rose to 44 Sunday night, as rescue and recovery efforts at the collapsed building in Ikoyi achieved a 99 percent completion rate.

This was announced by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, yesterday.

INCNews247 gathered that the dead bodies were discovered after Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had left the scene on Saturday, with a total of 42 victims discovered during the search operations.

One body was discovered around 10 p.m. on Saturday, while the other was discovered around midnight the same day.

However, Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information, reported on Sunday that one more body had been retrieved from the fallen structure.

According to him, the body recovered on Saturday brings the total number of bodies recovered from the wreckage to 43.

The identification of bodies continues at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, IDH, Yaba.

On Saturday, when he visited the scene with All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader Bola Tinubu, and Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, along with some state executive members, Sanwo-Olu said that 42 dead and 15 survivors had been documented thus far.

Meanwhile, some family members and relatives have continued to keep vigil at the site in the search for their missing loved ones.

Most of the visibly devastated relatives, who declined to make any comments, begged the governor to give them the bodies of their loved ones who they believed must be dead in the rubble
