Three Women Deliver Babies Fleeing from Terror Attack

After fleeing a terror attack in Niger State, three expecting mothers gave birth in the forest to their newborns.
When gunmen attacked towns in the state’s Magama council over the weekend, many women were forced to flee their homes.
According to reports, the onslaught started on Friday and lasted until yesterday afternoon.
The communities attacked were Mabirni, Zoma, Bado, Yangalu, Buga Zabbi and Ataba.

People were murdered and kidnapped in the attacks, however the exact number of people slain and kidnapped was unknown at press time.
It was gathered that one of the three women who put to bed in the bush was reported missing, but her baby was discovered alone by fleeing people.
Magama council chair, Safiyanu Garba Ibeto, confirmed that terrorists invaded the local government, adding that the residents were in danger.
“The bandits entered Magama local government through Mabirni, Zoma, Bado, Yangalu. Presently, they are about 23km to Ibeto,” he said.
Malama Khadijat Abdullahi, an old woman, said two of her daughters were among the abductees, and that the bandits had called the family and demanded N3 million.
The bandits were believed to be still working in several areas where they were gathering cattle for rustling yesterday morning, with the majority of the attacked communities deserted.
The majority of the afflicted communities’ residents have sought refuge in Kontagora.
Police stated they freed 20 abducted people and recovered large herds of animals from terrorists yesterday.
In a statement issued yesterday, spokesman Abiodun Wasiu said that the security task team had killed a large number of terrorists, though he did not specify how many.
“Tactical teams of the Command sent for reinforcement to the area and military personnel with the vigilante engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle along Ibeto cattle route which lasted for about two hours while the hoodlums were trying to escape with the cattle
“Consequently, scores of bandits were neutralised and the large rustled cattle were recovered while about 20 abducted victims regained freedom,” the statement read.
