Kwara Gov mourns Sardauna Ilorin Umaru Saro
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has described the death of Alhaji Umaru Saro, the Sardauna Ilorin, as a big loss to the nation and the state, especially the Ilorin Emirate where he impacted the lives of many with his industry, philanthropy, and positive influence.
“This passage represents a monumental loss to not just the Ilorin Emirate but to the entire state and the nation. Alhaji Umaru Saro was a phenomenon of his time, a business mogul, known nationally and internationally for his entrepreneurship, industry, generosity and commitment to communal growth, peace and harmony. His love for the Islamic scholarship and propagation is widely acknowledged as he invested so much resources therein. Alhaji Umaru Saro was a leading light of the nation’s business community in which he is held in high esteem. Most significantly, he was an inspiration and pillar of support for our Administration from inception. His death is indeed the end of an era,” the Governor said in a statement on Sunday night.
“On behalf of my family, the people and government of Kwara State, I commiserate with the Emir of Ilorin Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), his immediate and extended family, and of course the entire Muslim community on the passing of the Sardauna of Ilorin. He served God and humanity, and was always proud to identify with the people, poor or rich. We are consoled by his many virtues, particularly his philanthropy and immense love for our people and the community. We pray Allah (Exalted is He) to grant Alhaji Umaru Saro forgiveness and reward him with al-jannnah Firdaus. May Allah, exalted is He, comfort the family that the Sardauna has left behind.”

……
We are deeply pained by Saro’s death–IEDPU
Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union(IEDPU) has joined the list of prominent individuals and groups mourning the death of an accomplished international business magnate and the Sardaurna of Ilorin,Alhaji Umaru Aminu Saro, which took place in Lagos yesterday.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Imam, on behalf of IEDPU National President, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, fsi,the Union described the death of Alhaji Saro as not only very painful but also deeply regrettable particularly at this point in time when the community was still battling with the pain associated with the loss of the pioneer Grand Kadi of Kwara State and Sarkin Malamai of Ilorin ,Justice Abdulkadir Orire and two returning students of the Usman DanFodiyo University, Sokoto.
The statement described Alhaji Saro as a great patriot and exemplary leader who impacted deeply on the sociocultural and economic development of Nigeria and most especially that of Ilorin Emirate, recalling the recent efforts he made which led to the obtainment of the Certificate of Occupancy for the 45 years old Ilorin Yidi Praying Ground, among other distinguished interventions of his over the years.
Alhaji Uthman added that the death of Sardaurna of Ilorin was more disgusting and difficult to abide with considering the fact that he passed on when his services and wisdom as an elder statesman and patriot were more needed more than ever before.
While commiserating with the Executive Governor of Kwara State,Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq and his Lagos State counterpart Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, the Union also sympathised with the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr)Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR;the Saro family and the generality of the people of Ilorin Emirate on the loss of a prominent citizen and father figure.
The Union reminded other privileged indigenes of the Emirate to take a cue from the exemplary life and time of Alhaji Saro by ensuring that they continuously offered patriotic services to the progress of the community and the nation at large, saying that it was whatever a man does that he would be remembered for.
Alhaji Uthman prayed Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the departed hero and grant his eternal felicity. The Union also wished his relations, friends and business partners all the fortitude needed to bear his death.
